StarWars

Star Wars Day is May the Fourth

Off to the movies today. More to come...

Okay. Luann and I went to the 11:05 showing at Del Monte Cinema in Monterey.

I liked it okay. I wasn't really a StarWars nerd although I was of the impressionable age when the original came to movies. Episode 4 was completely entertaining at a time when movies were very formulaic and uninteresting. I was in my junior year of college when the first episode came out and I had a lot of other things going on and I never got into culture of StarWars.

I do remember that one of the first programs I got for my Macintosh in 1984 let me enter text that was converted to a screen crawl the way the opening scene of the movies took on. Seeing the text crawl off to the horizon today reminded me more of early computing than the movie itself.

Like many, I lost interest as the sequels came out and the prequels really turned me off. (That's you - Jar-Jar Bing). I got interested again when A Force Awakens came out, mostly because I find JJ Abrams movies entertaining.

Taken in 2001, I lost the original digital file and only have a smaller version (click on the picture to see this file full size).

For this web site, I use two copies of each picture. The original, which can be quite large, and the web image, which I save down to two or four inches. The smaller images load faster. Clicking on the small image opens the full size image in a new window. For videos, I take a screen shot of a key image and resize it for the page. Videos launch in their own window and use the browser's ability to recognize mp4 files to play the video. January 1 is mostly videos.
