One of the first projects I worked on at Apple was the sales training for the Apple Portait Display, introduced in 1989. This was a monochrome (black and white) 15" CRT with a resolution of 680x870. The display cost $1,049 and required a video card that was an additional $649. It was designed to sit on top of the Macintosh IIci and IIcx chassis.

I just reconfigured some monitors so I now have a portrait display next to my iMac. I've always liked the portrait orientation for writing and this makes it easier to see my html code.
I turned a Dell 160x1050 LCD that I wasn't using on it's side to give me a second screen next to my iMac. It's now a 1050x1600 Portrait Monitor. I had to drill some holes in the exiting mount to orient it on the existing stand but it worked out nicely.
This gives me two full color monitors, the Portrait display at 1050x1680 and myiMac display at 2560x1440.
After our movie yesterday we bought some lunch at Dametra's and had a picnic at Lover's Point in Pacific Grove. Beautiful afternoon and it was less crowded and more enjoyable. A couple of families at other tables, smaller kids not yet in school. Twenty two years here and we've finally getting to enjoy the area. Not a bad place to retire.
