There are many reasons to touch up a photograph after the shot is taken. Sometimes to fix lighting or color, sometimes to remove or edit something out. This is like preparing a meal. It's best to start with good ingredients but sometimes a little salt or sugar can bring out the flavor. But too much and you can quickly ruin even the best dish.
In the photograph below there was a white styrofoam container in front of the fence. I didn't even notice it when I took the picture or I would have picked it up. On the screen it was a distraction.
Looking at the full frame, I could have cropped it out but instead I used the touchup tool in Photos to blend the dirt over the stark white container. While I was in there, I took up the contrast and color a bit. Season, don't spoil.
The photo contains the elements I wanted and the enhancements don't distract from the original intent. I'm calling it done.
Art: Bob Lyman Billboard February 2, 2018 (click to enlarge)
I spent a good part of yesterday in Salinas taking pictures. This was along side highway 68, at the edge of a farm. The title is Bob Lyman and dated: Original 1995, New Version 2014. This is one of the many cut-out billboards in the Salinas Valley by John Cerney.
More photos of John Cerney projects.
