Learning HTLML 5

I spent some time at the W3C site yesterday, going over their HTML course. Some was a refresher and I picked up a lot of good new information.

When I first started poking at the web the standard was HTML 1 and I followed it up through HTML 4.1. At that point there was a split in the direction of HTML development. Scripting was becoming more important and CSS was becoming more powerful. The combination of CSS and javascript powered the web into the resource it's become today.

More HTML Resources

The w3shools html site has been a great resource.

You Tube has quite a few tutorials on HTML. Some are very good and comprehensive. Some are disjointed, incomplete and leave me scratching my head. And some are just plain wrong and misleading. I haven't found any to recommend yet but I'm looking.

Navigation

I added some navigation to the bottom of my pages yesterday. "Back to" the previous day and "On to" the next day. I ended up changing all 14 previous days. Doing 14 pages wasn't too bad but I can see that as the site grows, I'll need to find some ways to automate mandy kinds of global changes. Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is already in use to control some visual attributes; background color, header and text formats, page margins. I'll need to learn some scripting of programming that will automatically perform repeated changes.

Lesson to self - Try to sound less pretentious.

Photo of the Day - Neglected Hull

Moss Landing Harbor - November 2, 2017

Moss Landing Marina - November 2, 2017

Moss Landing Harbor is full of interesting boats. The Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute (MBARI) is based there, launching scientific research of the Monterey bay and underwater canyon. The harbor is home to many commercial fishing and recreational boats as well. There's always something to see and this is a reflection from one of the more neglected hulls.

I took this photo while testing out a new camera and lenses. Of of the things I want to get back to is photography. The world of digital photography is new to me and I'm excited by the possibilities.
