Just photos today.

Photo from Last March

Last March Luann and I spent an afternoon photographing around the Mission in Carmel. My camera was my iPad Pro. I have a tri-pod adaptor and I brought my large, heavy Bogen tripod which I bought for use with a 4x5 view camera. I also had my iPhone 6 Plus.

Wooden Cross

Photographs taken with large format cameras have a high fidelity quality to them. This is mostly the result of a very large sheet of film. But another part of the large format process is the deliberateness of the picture taking process. Hauling large, awkward gear and setting it up is very different than taking a phone out of my pocket and snapping a picture. In the photo above, I was very deliberate about the composing and the location of the camera in relation to the subjects. I wanted the cross to be the main subject and I wanted to show the mission tower and the blue sky. The fixed lens on the iPad forces choices and forced me to think about placement of the tripod/camera.

Fountain

In this case I wanted to take advantage of the iPad camera's wide view to focus on the fountain while using the mission as context. I took a number of photos from just a bit left, right,up and down before settling on this one. The best result was using this location to produce a video of the fountain. I used this on the Feb 15 page.

Panorama

This was taken with my iPhone using the Panorama feature. I swept the camera left to right and let the phone's processor put the picture together. This makes an impressively large file. When I retake this photo in the future, I'll move closer to the building to reduce the amount of empty foreground. Click on the photo to see the detail.
